Sandy Antoni of Rockville Honored
as a 2008 Outstanding Volunteer

The Volunteer Center of Rhode Island (VCRI) is pleased to announce that Sandy Antoni of Rockville will be honored for commendable service in her community through Turning Pointe Therapeutic Riding, Inc.

The Outstanding Volunteer Award, sponsored this year by The Washington Trust Company, is presented annually to several individuals and groups who have made a visible impact in their communities through focused and selfless volunteer work. These awards serve to emphasize the important role volunteers play in Rhode Island and to recognize the time and talent invested by the honorees, such as Sandy Antoni, in nonprofit organizations throughout the state.

Antoni has been a volunteer with Turning Pointe Therapeutic Riding for the past six years. Antoni is the horse leader and is responsible for directing therapeutic activities and grooming and feeding the horses. Antoni supervises the riders to ensure safety and proper technique while answering questions and working as a volunteer mentor.

Antoni often maintains special relationships with her riders while helping them reach their goals. Rebecca Crosby, of Turning Pointe Therapeutic Riding, praises that these “relationship[s are] pivotal to our program and demonstrate how important being in this encouraging atmosphere is to our riders.” Crosby also commends Antoni for her “positive attitude, patience with both riders and the horses, her knowledge and compassion towards mentoring fellow volunteers [and] advocacy for our program in the community.”

Antoni will be honored for all of her achievements as an Outstanding Volunteer during "VolunCheers 2008!" on Tuesday, April 29th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, RI.
