Arthur Plitt of Pawtucket Honored
as a 2008 Outstanding Volunteer The Volunteer Center of Rhode Island (VCRI) is pleased to announce that Arthur Plitt of Pawtucket will be honored for commendable service in her community through Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island (HHRI).
The Outstanding Volunteer Award, sponsored this year by The Washington Trust Company, is presented annually to several individuals and groups who have made a visible impact in their communities through focused and selfless volunteer work. These awards serve to emphasize the important role volunteers play in Rhode Island and to recognize the time and talent invested by the honorees, such as Arthur Plitt in nonprofit organizations throughout the state.
Plitt has been an active volunteer at HHCRI for over six years. His responsibilities include providing emotional support and practical assistance to patients, caregivers and staff. Plitt’s training includes spiritual care, bereavement, and Reiki. Plitt works with veterans to collect oral histories to archive their memories. Plitt goes beyond his responsibilities and truly connects with the patients of HHCRI and Camp Brave Heart participants, a bereavement camp for children ages 5 to 15. Plitt recently arranged for a patient, who was a retired professional violinist, to attend a dress rehearsal for the Rhode Island Philharmonic.
Plitt goes out of his way to provide transportation and run errands for the patients receiving hospice care at home. Bobbi Wexler, of HHCRI, describes Plitt as a “patient” and “stalwart” volunteer. “Arthur has a ‘can-do’ attitude and is a terrific problem solver. We truly appreciate his flexibility and his ability to assist with patients at the last minute.”
VCRI is proud to acknowledge Arthur Plitt for all of his achievements as an Outstanding Volunteer during the "VolunCheers 2008!" on Tuesday, April 29th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, RI.
