Ray Richard of Tiverton Honored
as a 2008 Outstanding Volunteer The Volunteer Center of Rhode Island (VCRI) is pleased to announce that Ray Richard of Tiverton will be honored for commendable service in her community through his volunteer service to the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology.
The Outstanding Volunteer Award, sponsored this year by The Washington Trust Company, is presented annually to several individuals and groups who have made a visible impact in their communities through focused and selfless volunteer work. These awards serve to emphasize the important role volunteers play in Rhode Island and to recognize the time and talent invested by the honorees, such as Ray Richard, in nonprofit organizations throughout the state.
Ray Richard has used his knowledge of archaeology, Native American cultures, exhibit design and museum studies as a docent at the Haffenreffer Museum for the past nine years. He goes beyond his duties as a docent and creates craft projects, fixes broken artifacts, and designs exhibits. Richard utilizes his skills with wood and soapstone carving to engage children and families during museum activities.
Richard’s fellow docents and museum staff respect him greatly, and the children are captivated by the information and stories that he shares with them. Geralyn Hoffman and Linda A’Vant-Deishinni of the Haffenreffer Museum say, “overall, Ray has a love of learning and working with us, and it shows.”
Richard will be honored for all of his achievements as an Outstanding Volunteer during "VolunCheers 2008!" on Tuesday, April 29th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, RI.
