Introducing United Way 2-1-1 in RI

A New Information and Referral Service and Crisis Response Tool for RI Residents

What is United Way 2-1-1 in RI?

2-1-1 is an easy to remember phone number that connects callers to critical health and human services. By calling 2-1-1, Information and Referral Specialists can help you assess your needs and refer you to the appropriate resources and services from their network of over 700 health and human service providers, government agencies, and community based organizations.
This confidential service is free of charge, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in any language.
You can also access and search the 2-1-1 database of service providers online at www.uw.ri211.org

United Way 2-1-1 Disaster Services and Volunteer Opportunities

In the event of a crisis or disaster situation, United Way 2-1-1 in RI will play an important role in providing telephone reassurance and information about shelter, medical care, and other disaster relief services to Rhode Island residents.

This service will free up 9-1-1 call center and other first responders to respond to critical emergencies, will provide a central intake point for information about the availability and status of services, and will offer a sustained connection to help the affected community with long-term recovery needs.

To prepare for these times of increased call volume, we are recruiting volunteers who will staff additional phone lines in the event of a disaster. Volunteers with the 2-1-1 Crisis Response Program will be trained by the local experts in information and referral. Volunteers will spend one 4-hour shift per month volunteering at the 2-1-1 Call Center located at Crossroads RI, and they will be contacted in the event that additional call center staff is needed.

If you are interested in becoming a 2-1-1 Crisis Response Information & Referral Volunteer, please contact Janice Pothier Pac at 401-421-6547 or email jpothierpac@vcri.org.
